What a week!
It's about that time again! No, not to skip class so you can finish sleeping away the previous night. It's time to catch up on what's going on at Ball State! This post may be a bit long, but there's tons of media, so I hope it helps!
This past week was action-packed, so of course what better to do than to blog about it! Besides last week being a week for tests (one of them being Music History...let's just say that's NOT my favorite class), there was a lot of extra-curricular stuff going on. Auditions for this year's Homecoming Talent Search were held on Monday and Tuesday and were a blast. Several University Singers (both present cast and alumni) auditioned, myself included. I auditioned in the category of male vocal solo along with a few of my fellow cast members. Although I wasn't selected as one of the finalists, one of our members, Joe Redman, did make it to the finals, so congrats to him!
Also this week, I received in the mail two French films that I have seen and thoroughly enjoyed. One of them, Amelie, is probably one of the most renowned French films, even to Americans. The other, Avenue Montaigne (pronounced mawn-tane), came out this summer and after I saw it, I knew I would be ordering it as soon as it came out. If you're into foreign films, definitely check this one out. And if you're not...start!
Now to the weekend. This weekend was quite busy, but I enjoyed every minute of it. On Saturday, I started the day with a cook-out at my house for fellow castmates of University Singers. Boy was this interesting! You see, I never grill out at home; it's always at a park or someone else's house, so I didn't have my own grill. So I went to Wal*Mart to purchase a cheap one that I could just have for this...and when I say cheap, it ended up being CHEAP. If found this little charcoal grill for $20...yeah, I know, that should have been my warning sign. Anyway, I picked it up, took it home, and assembled it; I was ready. Saturday afternoon as people started arriving, I lit up the grill...literally. After getting the charcoals going, I went inside to grab a drink. Upon returning to the grill, the paint on the lid had caught fire and was burning wildly. I wish I had thought to grab my camera during the outburst, but I was able to get an aftermath picture which I've posted below along with others from the cookout. Oh yeah, we also listened to the BSU vs. Nebraska game...what a disappointment that game was; so close, so close...

The aftermath of the flames...it was a sad day. However!! It still worked, so all was well in the world.

Here's Tara showing off her Heisman skills. And here's my roomie, Josh. He wanted an action shot, and voila!
Finally, here's part of the group enjoying lunch outside. Fun times had by all!
To close out the week, University Singers had a guest choreographer come and work with the group. Linda McEachran, a retired music educator from Buffalo Grove High School, came and taught two numbers, Moving Too Fast from Last Five Years and Mr. Bojangles from Fosse. Both were her arrangements that she also choreographed. We danced hour after hour on Sunday, going until around 9pm. Afterwards, a few of us enjoyed a relaxed evening at Scotty's in the Village. She was also with us on Monday to clean and change anything that might need it. Below is a video clip shot on Sunday during one of the run-throughs of Moving Too Fast. It's not perfect, but hopefully you can see the big picture. Enjoy and let me know what you think!
