Bonjour et Bienvenue!

This blog, run by Super-Senior Luke Meyer, is to help show the life of a Ball State student going through everyday college life. With this blog, I hope to help any prospective students decide whether or not this is the right college for them.

Scheduling classes...
should NOT be such a painstaking process! As I am sitting here at work listening to Mika, my new favorite artist (check him out; his music is unique but really cool (I think so, anyway!)), I decided to extrapolate on my thoughts of class scheduling. Every semester I dread this time because of the amount of work that goes into scheduling music classes. Here's a little glipse of how scheduling classes goes for a music major...

Music majors start about 2 weeks before everyone else. We have to meet with our music advisors after figuring out our schedule to get our classes approved; this gives the music faculty the chance to make sure everyone stays on track. Once the advisor approves what we've picked, we stand in line at the "music window" forever to see Kristi and she enters the permission for each course. Once she has entered the permission for each music course, we get a sheet of paper saying she has approved it and we can add the courses online. However! (there's always a "however"), let's say we are a little behind on seeing our advisor or getting to the window. Well, even as Kristi approves numbers, they don't show up online, so you don't actually know if there is still space as you make out your schedule. Therefore, you may wait in line all that time and then find out that a class you want is full...great. Now you have to change around your schedule and do it all over again! I was lucky enough to get it all done on the first day (which was a first for me...I am usually a HORRIBLE procrastinator) and I got all my classes I needed, and more importantly, when I wanted them.

One other thing, as I was figuring out my classes, I realized that I only have a few classes left that I need...two more semesters of classes and then I'm student teaching!! I can't believe it. Just yesterday I was attending Ball State for the first time...and now I'm in my 4th year here; it's crazy. I'm so glad that I switched my schedule to a 5-year plan because if I was scheduled to start student teaching next semester, holy cow...I don't want to think about leaving this place. I've met some of the coolest people here and have gained so many amazing friends that I don't want to think about parting from, but we all know it happens sooner or later, I'd just rather it be MUCH later...

Oh well, I guess that's enough for now. I have a newspaper to read and much homework, including a speech to write, a brass techniques midterm to prepare for, and some articles to read and summarize.

Until next time, here's a music video by Mika, entitled "Grace Kelly," by far my favorite of his songs.
